Za Small Stool

Naoto Fukasawa

Za is a family of stools in three heights, handcrafted from recycled aluminum and guaranteed for life. “Za” means “a place to sit” in Japanese – a name that speaks to the multi-functionality of a simple stool that can be used anywhere, indoors and outdoors. A simple and timeless stool, built for lifetimes of use, to be kept, cherished and passed on for generations.

Za is offered in natural aluminum with matte hand-brushed or hand-polished finish as well as six powder coat colors that reflect the joyful spirit of the collection. Recycled aluminum is Emeco’s signature material. It is super light, yet super strong. It is also non corrosive, fire proof, and has a very low carbon footprint. Perfect for a multi-functional, timeless stool.

Emeco

Emeco was founded in 1944 in Hanover, Pennsylvania, to build a chair for the U.S. Navy that was light, strong and able to survive life at sea. The 1006 Navy Chair is still made there by hand, from recycled aluminium, in seventy-seven steps.

Naoto Fukasawa

Fukasawa designs objects that feel familiar the first time they are used, which he calls design "without thought". The Za stools rest on slender aluminium legs that seem to lean slightly, as though the stool is about to move.
